Rdio has withdrawn from the streaming race by filing Ch. 11 and selling its assets to Internet radio giant Pandora.
In a blog post yesterday, Rdio announced the acquisition.
We’d like to update the entire Rdio community regarding today's announcement that Pandora plans to acquire Rdio's innovative technology and critically-acclaimed design. We’re very excited to continue our tradition of delivering beautiful and powerful music experiences to an even larger audience.
Rdio's service will not be interrupted today. We will have more updates in the coming weeks on what this process means for your Rdio account, but for the time being the service continues unchanged.
We couldn’t be more proud of the entire Rdio team and the product we have built. We’re honored to have connected so many listeners around the world with the music they love. It seems "many members" of the Rdio team will have jobs at Pandora according to Rdio CEO Anthony Bay who will reportedly not be joining them.
Rdio has been my streaming service of choice for a number of years. My family shared an affordable plan there quite happily. Now that my place for music is marked for execution, I must look to the competitors that drove me to Rdio in the first place for comparable service.
Finding a streaming music provider that matches my budget, platform demands, and standards for UI is a tall order. This will be an interesting few months.
