Felicity Jones in Talks to Star in First ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff

Mike Sampson, Screen Crush:

There have been rumors bouncing around this week that ‘Orphan Black’ star Tatiana Maslany had won the lead role in Gareth Edwards’ upcoming ‘Star Wars’ spinoff. As can often be the case with ‘Star Wars’ rumors, they were wrong. Oscar-nominated actress Felicity Jones (‘The Theory of Everything’) looks to have actually won the role, and is in now officially in talks with Lucasfilm about the part.

There is still a lot of wavering going on about this casting, but it seems likely that Jones got the part. That’s fine with me. Felicity was one of my favorite actresses under 30 (until she turned 30).

This spinoff has me just as, if not more excited than Episode VII. Why? Gareth Edwards is directing a Star Wars movie with a script originally written by Gary Whitta. Oh, and it might be about bounty hunters.1

If you want to see Felicity in action before this movie drops in December of 2016, check out my favorite in her filmography, Breathe In (2013), or The Theory of Everything (2014), which I’ve heard was good.

Aaron Paul and Edgar Ramirez are up for the male lead, not much on that one yet.
